Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday called upon Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to expedite the delayed Master Plan 2041 to address the capital’s growing developmental needs. Speaking at the launch of projects under the Gramodaya Abhiyan, Gupta emphasised that the new plan must not only solve existing challenges but also create long-term benefits for generations over the next century.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is currently preparing the draft, and Gupta assured that the government is ready to approve any proposal that serves the public interest. She noted that upon assuming office in February, she reviewed the existing draft but found it unsatisfactory and directed officials to present a concrete plan focused on people’s welfare.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena confirmed that the administration is committed to implementing the master plan quickly. He highlighted that the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan, launched in 2023, has already utilised Rs 7.6 billion of the Rs 9.6 billion fund transferred from the Delhi government to DDA. He added that projects worth Rs 130 million in 50 villages have been completed.

Gupta praised Saxena’s role in advancing rural development through the Abhiyan, stressing that national progress requires strengthening both urban and rural infrastructure. Under the initiative, 81 projects—including community hall renovations, road improvements, park development, and multipurpose centres—were inaugurated. In total, 854 works worth Rs 7.6 billion have been sanctioned.

The Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan aims to improve rural life by bridging infrastructure and civic gaps, while encouraging community participation in decision-making.
