Delhi LG Directs Tech Universities to Develop Civic Solutions
Sandhu called for research papers to be converted into actionable outcomes for Delhi, saying the city’s development would depend on linking research with practical solutions and innovation with measurable impact. He also stressed that artificial intelligence education should remain future-ready through global collaboration, particularly in applications such as AI-enabled healthcare in government hospitals.
The Lieutenant Governor asked NSUT to study global best practices and coordinate with expert agencies while developing solutions suited to the needs of civic and government bodies. These include the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Police, the Health Department, the Public Works Department and the Transport Department.
He also directed the university to offer skill courses aimed at improving employability, with emphasis on artificial intelligence, cyber security and digital tools. International academic and industry partnerships were encouraged to strengthen capabilities and competitiveness, while academic rigour, research excellence and international engagement were identified as priorities for improving the institution’s national and global rankings.
Sandhu asked NSUT to continue community activities in adopted villages, including employability initiatives, financial awareness and sports programmes focused on teamwork. He further called for urban centres and colonies to be adopted in collaboration with resident welfare associations, and for National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme students to participate in civic work. The university was asked to maintain feedback and activity records and establish awards for notable contributions and performance.
