The Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure proposal that includes the construction of a 19.2 km elevated road along the Yamuna, stretching from Wazirabad to the DND. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the plan with senior transport and infrastructure officials and outlined aims to streamline road and metro networks across the capital. The proposal is presented as part of a broader effort to modernise urban mobility and reduce chronic congestion on arterial routes.

Officials said the plan sits alongside major metro network expansions that are being monitored closely by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and city administrators. Targets have been set for the completion of crucial corridors before December 2026, with additional projects scheduled to finish by 2029, to create integrated multimodal links. The review emphasised coordination between road and rail projects to maximise the impact on travel times and interchange efficiency.

Integrated road projects include multiple flyovers and corridor upgrades intended to support smooth traffic flow and better access to metro stations. Planners expect the elevation and segregation of through traffic to ease pressure on surface streets and enable faster public transport operation. The scheme is described as an attempt to align infrastructure capacity with growing urban demand and to support economic activity through improved mobility.

Implementation will require close planning among municipal agencies, transport authorities and the DMRC to further manage construction phasing and minimise disruption. Officials indicated that timely delivery will depend on efficient land use, procurement processes and clear staging of works. Authorities will continue to review progress at high level meetings to ensure the projects meet the stated timelines and deliver expected benefits.
