Delhi Plans Inter-State Routes For Electric Bus Services

The Delhi government is preparing to extend its electric bus services beyond city limits, with plans to operate routes connecting the capital to nearby cities including Rishikesh, Dehradun, Agra, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Shimla, officials said.

The move marks a significant step in promoting clean and sustainable public transport across northern India while offering affordable and eco-friendly travel options to passengers.

A senior official from the Transport Department said the government is currently identifying suitable inter-state routes in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, ensuring that charging infrastructure is available along all designated corridors before launch.

The initiative forms part of Delhi’s broader Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, which aims to expand green mobility networks, reduce carbon emissions, and support India’s transition towards sustainable urban and regional transport systems.

The inter-state electric bus rollout is expected to strengthen connectivity between Delhi and key tourist and commercial hubs, while significantly cutting vehicular pollution across the region.
