The chief minister presented the annual budget of Rs 1,037 billion (bn) for 2026-27 at the Delhi Assembly, outlining priorities for revenue and capital spending. The document sets a revenue focus while increasing capital investment across infrastructure and services. The city’s per capita income was described as the third highest in the country and its contribution to gross domestic product is projected to rise from 3.67 per cent to 3.72 per cent. Fiscal discipline and investment growth were highlighted as twin aims.

The budget allocates 70.3 per cent of resources to revenue expenditure and 29.7 per cent to capital spending, with emphasis on strengthening fiscal metrics. The tax-to-gross state domestic product ratio is expected to rise from four point nine five per cent in 2025-26 to five point zero nine per cent in 2026-27, reflecting improved revenue performance. The government projected a revenue surplus of Rs 90.92 bn in the current year and framed the balance as a signal of fiscal health.

The plan designates 21 per cent of the outlay as a green budget to support environmental initiatives and to guide policy decisions for sustainability. Allocations include an increase for the fire service from Rs 5.3 bn last year to Rs 6.74 bn for 2026-27 to bolster emergency response capacity. Funds of Rs 2.02 bn have been set aside to extend the Ayushman Bharat health scheme to transgender individuals. A sum of Rs 2.25 bn has been earmarked for the rollout of closed circuit television cameras across the capital.

Officials indicated that these measures are intended to balance social protection, public safety and environmental goals while sustaining capital investment. The document frames the budget as a mix of continued revenue management and targeted capital expenditure to support urban services and inclusion. The administration said monitoring and fiscal discipline would guide implementation and that allocations would be reviewed against outcomes over the coming year.
