Devyani Rana announced an allocation of Rs 2.5 million (mn) for a major drainage project in Dhok Waziran. The allocation was declared during a local event and aims to address long standing drainage deficiencies in the neighbourhood. The announcement follows persistent community concerns about flooding during heavy rains.

The project will upgrade existing stormwater channels and replace damaged pipelines to improve surface drainage and reduce waterlogging. The work has been designed to cover residential streets and public thoroughfares that are frequently affected during monsoon periods. Contractors will be required to adhere to technical specifications and health and safety standards during execution. The interventions will also include improved access points for maintenance.

The allocation is intended to improve sanitary conditions and reduce health risks associated with standing water, according to the release. Municipal engineering authorities will oversee the technical planning and supervise contractors engaged to carry out the works. A monitoring mechanism will be established to review progress and ensure compliance with quality benchmarks. Budgetary disbursements will follow prescribed administrative procedures.

Detailed surveys and engineering assessments form part of the preparatory phase to finalise the scope and materials required for the interventions. Procurement will follow standard procedures and the project will be implemented in stages to allow continued access and minimise disruption. Coordination with utility providers will be undertaken to avoid service interruptions during construction. The phased approach is intended to preserve mobility for residents and maintain business activity.

Residents and local stakeholders will be kept informed of progress through community notices and coordination meetings, the statement said. Capacity building for routine maintenance will be factored into the programme to sustain benefits after completion. Officials noted that environmental safeguards will be incorporated into designs to protect drainage channels and surrounding areas. Administrative approvals are under way and work will commence once necessary clearances are obtained.
