DoT Webinar Highlights Cyber Resilience in Telecom Sector

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) observed National Cyber Security Awareness Month with a webinar organised by the Director General Telecom (DGT HQ) on 24 October 2025, aimed at promoting cyber resilience in the telecom ecosystem.

The event, attended by around 250 participants from DoT field units, telecom, and internet service providers, was graced by Ms Sunita Chandra, Director General Telecom, and Mr Suresh Puri, Additional Director General, DGT HQ.

DG Telecom underscored the collective responsibility of organisations and users in ensuring cyber safety. Mr Puri updated participants on the commissioning of the Telecom-CSIRT setup and its readiness across DoT field units.

Cyber Security Expert Dr Rohit Gautam cautioned that phishing continues to account for nearly 90 per cent of cyber breaches globally, resulting in losses exceeding $9.5 trillion annually. He outlined preventive measures against phishing, vishing, and deepfake-enabled attacks.

Industry Expert Mr Abhijit Tripathy elaborated on the significance of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) frameworks in enhancing organisational resilience, while Mr Sampat Ray highlighted the rise of AI-enabled malware and deepfake-based phishing scams targeting mobile users.

The session concluded with a strong call for continuous awareness, proactive governance, and sector-wide collaboration to safeguard India’s digital infrastructure.
