Commerce and Industries Minister Nyato Dukam visited the special economic zone (SEZ) at Balinong in Changlang district and held discussions with the district administration, officers of the Department of Trade and Commerce and members of the local community including representatives of the SEZ Balinong Committee. The visit took place on Tuesday and formed part of an assessment of development prospects and local issues at the site. The minister examined the site and engaged with stakeholders on infrastructure needs and community concerns.

Villagers submitted a memorandum highlighting the need for expeditious development of the SEZ and the construction of a flood protection wall along the Dehing River covering the Balinong and Magantong areas to protect them from erosion and flooding. Dukam, accompanied by Trade and Commerce Director Sonyung Modi and Trade and Commerce Deputy Director Toko Togur, assured that the concerns and developmental requirements raised would be examined for necessary action at the earliest. The delegation outlined that follow up would be coordinated with district authorities to establish priorities and timelines for remedial measures.

The minister reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu the government remains committed to promoting trade, infrastructure and economic development across the region. He was received by officers of the district administration including Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu, Kharsang Sub Divisional Officer Dorjee Wangchu and Miao Assistant Commissioner Nawang Thutan. A warm reception from villagers led by Balinong Gram Panchayat Council chair Wangman Ronrang underscored local interest in timely progress.

The district administration will examine the memorandum and take steps to address immediate safety concerns while planning longer term development for the SEZ site. Officials will assess technical requirements for the proposed flood protection wall and identify funding and implementation arrangements in consultation with state authorities. The visit is expected to inform a coordinated programme of action to enhance economic opportunities and strengthen local resilience to flooding and erosion.
