Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has made rapid and substantial progress within three years of becoming operational, citing its industry-driven approach as a model for the rest of the country.

The remarks were made during the university’s second Court meeting held at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi. Chairing the meeting as Chancellor of the university, Vaishnaw said GSV should continue its strong focus on the railways and aviation sectors while further strengthening curricula in bridge and tunnel engineering and the maritime sector, with an emphasis on shipbuilding. He also called on the institution to play a larger role in upskilling the defence forces and the railways, and to contribute through applied research for integrated transport planning.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary presented a detailed report on the university’s progress and current status. Members of the Court praised the pace of development achieved in a short period, highlighting industry collaborations, executive training programmes for the railways and defence forces, and capacity-building initiatives linked to the PM Gati Shakti framework and civil services.

During the meeting, members also offered suggestions and collaborative inputs for future growth in areas such as bridge and tunnel engineering, shipbuilding, railways, defence, logistics and supply chain management.

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, India’s leading university focused on transportation and logistics, was established as a Central University through an Act of Parliament in 2022. Operating under the Ministry of Railways, the institution covers the full spectrum of the transportation sector, including railways, highways, ports, aviation, maritime and shipping, inland waterways, urban transport, and integrated logistics and supply chain networks.
