Shri Mihir Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Government e Marketplace (GeM), met Shri Anurag Jain, Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh, in Bhopal to discuss measures for strengthening the state’s adoption and utilisation of the GeM platform.

The meeting reaffirmed GeM’s mission of providing a unified, transparent, and efficient online procurement system for all government entities — including Central and State Ministries, Departments, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, Local Institutions, and Panchayati Raj organisations. Both sides stressed the importance of developing a robust, streamlined, and accountable procurement framework to enhance transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in public procurement within the state.

As part of its national outreach strategy, GeM has been engaging with high-GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) states through a series of focused discussions and CEO-level interactions. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, has also written to Chief Ministers encouraging them to align State procurement rules with the General Financial Rules (GFR) and GeM General Terms and Conditions (GeM-GTC). He has further urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure procurement across Union Territories is routed through GeM.

In Madhya Pradesh, GeM’s presence continues to strengthen, with over 86,000 sellers from the state having completed their registration and profiles on the platform. Since its inception, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) from Madhya Pradesh have received orders worth Rs 55.2 billion from state buyers, Rs 20.3 billion from buyers in other states, and Rs 202.9 billion from central buyers. This robust participation demonstrates the state’s growing integration into the national public procurement ecosystem and highlights GeM’s pivotal role in empowering local enterprises to access a broader government marketplace.

With GeM’s cumulative GMV reaching record levels, the engagement in Madhya Pradesh marks a significant step toward strengthening the state’s procurement ecosystem and ensuring a level playing field for all vendors.

GeM reiterated its commitment to fostering a culture of fairness, digital integrity, and inclusivity, ensuring that every seller — particularly small and emerging enterprises — can participate meaningfully in India’s transparent, technology-driven procurement system.
