The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has sought Rs 200 million from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to relay a recycled water pipeline rendered unusable after a storm water drain was built over it during the construction of the Dwarka Expressway.

In a letter to NHAI, the GMDA requested funding for laying a 1.5-kilometre recycled water pipeline, as earlier agreed between the two agencies. According to officials, Rs 199.1 crore is to be deposited by NHAI for the project.

A letter written by GMDA officials on 3 November stated, “It was observed during a joint site visit in 2020 that a surface drain was constructed over the existing 1,500 mm, 1,600 mm, and 700 mm recycle pipelines.”

Following a meeting held on 8 November 2024 at Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi, it was decided that GMDA would execute the pending works, and the costs would be reimbursed by NHAI.

Once completed, GMDA officials said the project would enable the supply of recycled water for maintaining greenery along the Dwarka Expressway and nearby residential sectors.

The authority has already laid treated water pipelines along major roads from Sectors 81 to 115, but due to the missing 1.5 km stretch, it has been facing challenges in supplying treated water to these areas.
