Godavari Biorefineries Limited, one of India’s major ethanol producers and a pioneer in ethanol-based chemicals, has announced its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2025. The company reported total income of Rs 5.34 billion for Q1 FY26, compared to Rs 5.25 billion in Q1 FY25 and Rs 5.89 billion in Q4 FY25.

EBITDA stood at Rs 65 million, up from a negative Rs 95 million in the same period last year, though lower than Rs 1.22 billion recorded in the previous quarter. The EBITDA margin was 1.2 per cent in Q1 FY26, compared to a negative 1.8 per cent in Q1 FY25 and 20.7 per cent in Q4 FY25.

Profit After Tax (PAT), excluding one-time deferred tax impact, was negative Rs 160 million in Q1 FY26, an improvement from negative Rs 261 million in Q1 FY25. Including deferred tax, PAT remained at negative Rs 160 million.

The company’s bio-based chemicals segment saw strong growth, with EBITDA increasing 43 per cent year-on-year to Rs 125.3 million in Q1 FY26. Ethanol production also witnessed a sharp rise, reaching 26,057 KL in Q1 FY26, compared to 8,658 KL in the same quarter last year. The resurgence of B-heavy molasses in ethanol production contributed significantly to this growth.

Chairman and Managing Director Shri Samir Somaiya highlighted progress in drug discovery, noting European patent validations and successful safety trials for a novel anti-cancer molecule. Additionally, the company received a Chinese patent for another compound demonstrating efficacy against several cancer types.

Looking forward, Godavari Biorefineries remains focused on expanding its bio-based chemicals segment through debottlenecking and developing specialty chemicals. It also continues to invest in multi-feedstock ethanol capabilities and R&D to support long-term sustainable growth.
