The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a clarification after several media reports suggested the Government of India was pursuing a Middle East?India Deepwater Pipeline linking Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf states. The ministry categorically stated that no such proposal is currently under consideration. It affirmed that there are no active discussions or negotiations with Oman or any other Gulf country on the project at any level within the ministry.

The clarification was published through the Press Information Bureau in order to correct public record and to address widespread speculation. The ministry indicated that inaccurate or premature reporting had prompted the need for an authoritative statement. The release sought to prevent misunderstanding among stakeholders and the public.

Reports described the proposed conduit as a deep?sea energy pipeline intended to transport hydrocarbons from the Gulf to the Indian coast, primarily Gujarat. The ministry explained that projects of that nature would require formal proposals, intergovernmental agreements, comprehensive technical and environmental studies and coordination among multiple agencies. No such processes have been initiated in this case.

The ministry further noted that no bilateral or multilateral negotiations are underway and that any legitimate proposal would be subject to established procedures and clearances before any commitment. It emphasised that policy and statutory requirements would govern consideration of cross?border energy infrastructure. Until a formal proposal is received and processed, no action is being taken.

The statement concluded by urging media outlets and the public to rely on official communications for accurate information about energy infrastructure matters. The ministry indicated that it would issue further information only through authenticated channels as required. The clarification was issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas via PIB Delhi.
