The Government has introduced a Model Context Protocol server (MCP server) to facilitate linking of artificial intelligence tools with official statistical databases. The newly launched MCP server will allow access to verified Government data through artificial intelligence applications and platforms via the National Statistical Portal e-Sankhyiki (eSankhyiki). The initiative is designed to promote interoperable data exchanges and to provide standardised context for datasets so that downstream tools can interpret statistical variables reliably.

The beta version of the MCP server initially included seven key statistical products such as the Periodic Labour Force Survey, Consumer Price Index, Annual Survey of Industries, Index of Industrial Production and National Accounts Statistics. That coverage has now been extended to 21 products available on the eSankhyiki portal, expanding the range of official series and time spans accessible to analytical tools. The broader set of datasets will support more comprehensive modelling and comparative analysis.

The MCP server is intended to benefit researchers, policy officials and technology developers by streamlining access to authoritative statistics and reducing the risk of misuse of unofficial data. The design emphasises standard context descriptors, robust metadata, API endpoints with versioning and audit trails, and access controls to protect data integrity and user privacy. These technical measures are expected to foster reproducible analysis and to accelerate the development of responsible data driven applications.

Officials indicated that the expansion reflects a phased approach to linking statistical outputs with modern analytics environments and that further extensions may follow as requirements evolve. The Government expects the MCP server to improve transparency, to support evidence based policy making and to encourage collaboration between statistical agencies and the technology ecosystem.
