The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, addressed the National Conference of Trade Leaders, emphasising the Government’s commitment to improving ease of doing business and ensuring the welfare of workers. He also reflected on the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur, noting that his ideals of unity and service continue to guide India’s journey.

Piyush Goyal said significant progress has been made through the Jan Vishvas Bill, which simplifies procedures and lowers compliance burdens for traders and businesses. Responding to suggestions on a “One Nation, One Licence” framework, he proposed that States such as Delhi and Maharashtra could pilot a unified online portal integrating State and municipal trade licences.

The Minister highlighted that the four newly enacted Labour Codes will substantially benefit unorganised and gig workers. Previously, these workers navigated multiple forms, inspections and duties; the new framework aims to simplify requirements, expand access to facilities and social security, and improve working conditions. He added that both employers and employees have welcomed the reforms.

Piyush Goyal urged traders to actively promote Swadeshi products. He said manufacturers should clearly display the location of production on packaging, and stores could highlight that they sell Swadeshi goods. Expanding the visibility of “Made in India” products, he noted, would strengthen domestic industry and encourage consumer trust.
