Gravita Expands Lead Recycling Capacity At Mundra Plant

Gravita India Limited has expanded the lead recycling capacity of its existing unit at Mundra in Gujarat, increasing annual throughput by 80,300 metric tonnes per annum (tpa) and raising the unit total to 145,100 tpa. The move forms part of the company's ongoing capacity enhancement programme as it seeks to consolidate its position in the global recycling sector. The company described the Mundra facility as strategically important for its operations given its coastal location and logistics advantages.

The company invested Rs 490 mn from internal accruals to procure and commission the expanded recycling plant. This capital deployment aligns with the stated long-term strategy to strengthen recycling capabilities and to meet growing domestic and international demand for sustainable lead products. Management expects the enhanced capacity to support higher throughput while maintaining quality and environmental standards.

The enlarged capacity is expected to improve operational efficiencies through better economies of scale, optimise logistics by leveraging the plant's proximity to the port and enable more competitive supply to key export markets. The Mundra site will continue to provide advantages in sourcing raw materials and in dispatching finished material to overseas customers. Gravita operates thirteen state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities worldwide and, following this expansion, the company's total installed recycling capacity stands at 425,959 tpa. The group reports presence in over 70 countries and a recycling heritage of over three decades across six business verticals, and the additional capacity is intended to meet increasing demand for high-quality recycled lead.
