Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has signed a Rs 330 million (Rs 330 mn) contract for the second refit of a Seychelles Coast Guard ship. The contract covers comprehensive refit and maintenance work as well as provisioning of required spares and systems upgrades to restore operational readiness. The assignment constitutes a follow up to earlier refit work and is aimed at extending the vessel service life and enhancing its patrol capabilities.

Officials said the order will support maritime security efforts in the Indian Ocean region by ensuring the Seychelles Coast Guard can maintain persistent patrols and search and rescue readiness. The project is expected to involve coordinated logistics and technical support, with GRSE managing engineering, testing and certification phases. The refit is consistent with ongoing bilateral cooperation that seeks to strengthen regional stability and maritime domain awareness.

GRSE is a public sector shipbuilder that has delivered a range of naval and coast guard platforms and has developed specialised expertise in vessel life extension projects. The contract value adds to the company order book and underlines continued demand for refurbishment services across small navies and coast guards. Suppliers and shipyard personnel will be mobilised in phases to carry out structural repairs, machinery overhauls and system modernisation. The work will comply with applicable safety and classification standards to ensure seaworthiness.

The contract is expected to provide sustained work for the shipyard and its local supply chain during the execution phase and to contribute to skill development in specialised maritime trades. GRSE will coordinate with Seychelles authorities on technical acceptance and handover procedures to ensure minimal operational downtime for the vessel.
