Gujarat MSME Credit Disbursal Tops Target By 22 Per Cent
The release said the state has more than 33 lakh MSME units registered on the Udyam portal, equal to over 3.3 million (mn) enterprises. It said structured banking support and government incentives have expanded access to finance for micro, small and medium enterprises. National Small Industry Day on August 30 highlights the contribution of small-scale industries.
In 2025 public sector banks introduced a computer-based Credit Assessment Model that evaluates applicants using their digital footprint rather than relying solely on paperwork. The system automatically retrieves online information including KYC details, GST filings, electronically verified bank statements, income tax returns and credit history to determine feasible loan amounts. Applications can be completed digitally by phone or computer, reducing paperwork and accelerating the application-to-approval timeline.
The model integrates government credit guarantee schemes such as the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises, enabling many small businesses to obtain loans without mortgaging property. In-principle approval is often provided immediately, simplifying access for marginalised sections, women entrepreneurs, rural artisans and small farmers. Banks said reliance on business data such as income, expenses and repayment history aims to make credit decisions more objective.
At the 190th meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee in Gandhinagar, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reiterated that the banking sector must extend credit to the last mile and ensure easy access for marginalised groups. He framed the effort as part of national ambitions under the Prime Minister to enlarge the economy and tasked banks with supporting investment and inclusive growth. The release concluded that the combined effect of digital assessment and targeted schemes is strengthening Gujarat's MSME ecosystem.
