HBL Engineering has secured an order worth Rs 17.14 billion (bn) from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works for the supply and integration of the Kavach train protection system. The order, announced by the company, relates to provision of equipment and systems for onboard and wayside deployment to enhance rail safety. The contract significantly increases the firm's secured revenue and adds scale to its order book for signalling and safety projects. The work will engage the company's engineering teams and supplier base across manufacturing, testing and assembly functions.

Kavach is an automatic train protection system designed to reduce the risk of collisions and improve operational reliability on the rail network. The system combines onboard equipment, wayside components and communication interfaces to provide automated safeguards against signal passing incidents and overspeed situations. Deployment of such systems provides continuous automated intervention to prevent human error from resulting in serious incidents.

For HBL Engineering, the contract underlines the company's positioning in the rail signalling segment and will support its manufacturing and integration pipeline over the contract term. The order also emphasises the role of domestic suppliers in delivering critical safety technologies to the rail sector and reflects ongoing investment in signalling modernisation.
