Himadri Begins Commercial Operations Of 70,000 t Line At Mahistikry

Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has commenced commercial operations of a newly commissioned 70,000 metric tonnes per annum (t per annum) speciality carbon black line at its Mahistikry facility in Hooghly, West Bengal. The commissioning follows a brownfield expansion and raises the site speciality carbon black capacity to 130,000 t per annum and the company's total carbon black capacity to 250,000 t per annum. The company indicated that the Mahistikry site is now the world's largest single-location speciality carbon black manufacturing facility.

The expansion is intended to strengthen the company's speciality portfolio and to serve high-value applications across plastics, inks, paints, coatings and other niche segments. The project incorporates advanced process technologies, state-of-the-art quality control systems and energy efficient operations alongside scalable infrastructure to ensure consistent production of premium grades for global customers. The enhanced scale is expected to improve operational efficiencies, supply reliability and product innovation capabilities.

Company executives indicated that the newly commissioned capacity is expected to contribute meaningfully to revenue growth and to strengthen the margin profile over the medium term as global demand shifts toward high-performance, customised carbon solutions. The additional volume is intended to enable faster market responsiveness and to support higher value, application-specific segments. The development forms part of a disciplined expansion strategy focused on operational excellence, sustainability and long-term value creation for stakeholders.

Himadri is described as a global speciality chemical conglomerate with a strong focus on research and development, innovation and sustainability and operates multiple zero-liquid discharge manufacturing facilities. The company supplies an extensive product portfolio including speciality carbon black, coal tar pitch, refined naphthalene and advanced materials to domestic and international markets, exporting to 56 countries.
