Himadri Invests in IBC to Expand Li-ion Materials Reach

Himadri Speciality Chemical Limited has invested USD 4.43 million (approx. Rs 374.7 million) to acquire a 16.24 per cent stake in US-based International Battery Company (IBC). This strategic investment marks Himadri’s commercial entry into the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active and anode materials market, with board representation in IBC.

IBC operates a 50 MWh battery cell plant in South Korea and is building a Gigafactory in Bengaluru through a joint venture with Mahanagar Gas Limited. The facility, expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of FY26, will serve two-wheeler and three-wheeler original equipment manufacturers and last-mile B2B fleets. Over five hundred electric vehicles already use IBC’s battery packs.

This partnership allows Himadri to test and deploy its materials commercially using IBC’s infrastructure while gaining access to new markets in the United States, India, and East Asia. IBC benefits from a secured supply of high-quality anode and cathode materials and Himadri’s expertise in materials science and supply chain management.

Together, the companies aim to accelerate innovation and deliver scalable, sustainable battery solutions for global mobility and energy storage needs.
