Hettich Poddar WoodWorking Institute (HPWWI) has recently held the convocation and award ceremony for its first-ever batch of women trainees in woodworking, marking a significant step towards gender inclusion in the woodworking and furniture and fittings sector. The ceremony was held in Faridabad and recognised India’s first all-women batch trained in this technical domain.

A total of 108 students graduated from HPWWI’s three-month Short-Term Training (STT – Mobilised) programme, including 50 women trainees. For many, this marked their first formal entry into a traditionally male-dominated trade. In recognition of their pioneering role, the women trainees were presented with the ‘Ice Breaker Award’ for demonstrating courage and initiative.

The event was graced by Amit Prasad, Director – HPWWI and Chief Human Resources Officer, Hettich India, who emphasised the importance of inclusive, industry-aligned skilling pathways to build a future-ready workforce.

Graduates received certifications recognised by the National Skill Development Corporation and the Furniture and Fitting Skill Council, along with awards such as the Medal of Merit and Ice Breaker Award. The curriculum combines hands-on training with exposure to modern woodworking technologies, including CNC machines and pneumatic tools.

Reflecting HPWWI’s strong industry connect, 15–20 students received on-the-spot offer letters from placement partners. The cohort included trainees from multiple states, including Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, underlining HPWWI’s focus on inclusive, CSR-led skill development aligned with the Skill India Mission.
