IIM Bangalore To Open International Campus In Indonesia
IIM Bangalore plans a phased rollout, commencing with executive education programmes for senior executives, business leaders and public sector professionals, with degree granting management programmes to follow subject to successful implementation over two years. The curriculum is expected to emphasise five emerging areas: global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate and sustainability, and healthcare management. Programme design will include engagement with industry leaders, eminent academicians and global experts to ensure relevance for regional needs.
The initiative will be implemented through a memorandum of understanding between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama, the managing and development entity of the Singhasari Special Economic Zone. Participants at the Indonesian campus will be offered opportunities for short academic immersion visits to IIM Bangalore's Bengaluru campus to experience India's innovation ecosystem and business environment. Officials framed the project as deepening academic collaboration and human capital partnerships between India and Indonesia.
The government said the move advances the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages leading Indian institutions to establish an international presence, and positions Indonesia as a potential regional hub for quality management education. The development follows other overseas expansions by Indian institutions, with IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras cited as international examples and IIM Mumbai noted as the 21st IIM created in 2023. Stakeholders expect the campus to broaden access to affordable, high quality management education across the ASEAN region.
