India expands EV charging network to 67,657 chargers

India had installed 67,657 electric vehicle chargers across states and union territories by 7 August 2026, including 1,139 battery-swapping station chargers. Under FAME II, 1.672 million electric vehicles had been sold by June, while 5,299 electric buses were deployed by 31 July. The PM E-DRIVE initiative has supported 2.659 million EV sales, while the PM-eBus Sewa Payment Security Mechanism covers 27,555 e-buses. GST on EVs and charging infrastructure remains at 5 per cent across India
