India’s maritime sector achieved a landmark with the inauguration of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) Phase II, the country’s largest standalone container port, developed by Man Infraconstruction Ltd (MICL).

The terminal was virtually inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of India, Narendra Modi, and Singapore, Lawrence Wong, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, MLA Parag Shah, and other dignitaries. The event marks a major milestone in India’s port infrastructure, significantly enhancing trade capacity.

BMCT Phase II features advanced multimodal and green infrastructure, including a 2,000-metre quay and an annual handling capacity of 4.8 million TEUs. Developed under a major public-private partnership, the project aims to strengthen global connectivity and improve trade efficiency.

MICL secured the 110-hectare development contract in June 2023 through competitive bidding, highlighting its engineering and execution expertise.
