Indian Coast Guard adopts DigiLocker for paperless governance
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this integration was signed on 27 October 2025 between Shri Nand Kumarum, IAS, President and CEO of NeGD, and Inspector General Jyotindra Singh, Deputy Director General (HRD), at the ICG Headquarters in New Delhi.
Speaking at the signing, Shri Nand Kumarum said the collaboration marks “a significant step towards comprehensive digital transformation in defence services,” aligning with the Government of India’s vision to empower institutions through technology while strengthening data security, operational efficiency, and service delivery for maritime defence personnel.
Through DigiLocker’s trusted digital platform, the ICG aims to digitise service records and administrative documents, enhancing transparency and reducing dependency on physical paperwork. The partnership will establish a secure digital document exchange system for the issuance, access, and verification of service records and certificates.
Various ICG departments will integrate with DigiLocker to issue and manage documents, while authorised record offices and units will provide digitally signed, verifiable certificates—including trade, training, and service documents. This move is expected to streamline verification during recruitment and ensure data authenticity and integrity.
The integration will also support future digital workflows related to welfare and pension services, creating a unified, secure, and sustainable documentation ecosystem within the Coast Guard.
This initiative underscores the ICG’s commitment to leveraging digital tools for administrative modernisation and contributing to the broader goal of Digital India through paperless, efficient governance.
