Indian Peroxide Limited (IPL) has announced plans to set up a 400 tonnes-per-day chlor-alkali plant at its manufacturing complex in the Dahej Special Economic Zone in Gujarat, with provision for expansion to 800 tonnes per day. The project, which is scheduled for commissioning by October 2026, will deploy advanced Japanese process technology and integrate captive hydrogen to strengthen domestic chemical supply and reduce import dependence.

The new chlor-alkali facility will be developed within the Dahej SEZ, one of India’s key chemical manufacturing hubs. Designed for scalability, the caustic soda plant forms a core part of IPL’s forward integration strategy, aimed at building a globally competitive and resilient chemical platform with long-term capacity security for Indian markets.

IPL already operates a 300 tonnes-per-day hydrogen peroxide plant at Dahej, which has been expanded in phases from an initial capacity of 150 tonnes per day using advanced Swedish technology. The company manufactures speciality-grade hydrogen peroxide in multiple concentrations for end-use sectors such as FMCG, pharmaceuticals, electronics, textiles and water treatment, with exports to more than 15 countries.

The chlor-alkali project will enable deeper backward and forward integration across IPL’s operations. Hydrogen generated as a by-product will be used captively in hydrogen peroxide production, improving overall resource efficiency. The integrated model is expected to support downstream industries including paper, aluminium, soaps and infrastructure, while lowering reliance on imported raw materials.

For project execution, IPL has appointed Nuberg EPC as project management consultant and EPC contractor, with responsibility for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Nuberg brings extensive global experience in chlor-alkali and hydrogen peroxide projects, along with capabilities in green hydrogen and clean energy solutions.
