INS Sudarshini arrived at Alexandria on first March 2026, marking a significant milestone in the Lokayan-26 transoceanic expedition. The arrival followed the vessel's northbound transit through the Suez Canal after departing Safaga and provided intensive training for the trainees aboard the three-masted barque. The ship's passage through the 193-kilometre canal served as a major operational and educational highlight for the voyage, and trainees gained hands-on experience in navigation, seamanship and teamwork during the canal transit.

The visit forms part of the Bridges of Friendship initiative and is intended to celebrate the maritime partnership between India and Egypt. The two countries share a long legacy of cultural connections and economic ties that span several centuries and have deepened in recent years. Bilateral relations have strengthened across multiple sectors, including defence and maritime cooperation, and the port call is designed to advance that cooperation.

On arrival the vessel was received by officials of the Egyptian Navy and personnel from the Indian Embassy, and the Commanding Officer paid a courtesy call on the Commander of Alexandria Naval Base, Rear Admiral Mahmoud Abdelsattar. The programme for the port call includes professional exchanges to enhance naval interoperability and mutual understanding. The engagement schedule also comprises community outreach and cultural activities aimed at fostering mutual goodwill.

The stopover in Alexandria is expected to reinforce operational ties and provide trainees with exposure to international maritime practices while promoting people to people contacts. The mission underscores India's continued commitment to deepen bilateral ties and to expand cooperation in the maritime domain. The Lokayan-26 expedition will proceed after completion of scheduled exchanges and outreach activities in Alexandria, and naval officers will review procedures and share best practices to promote safety and coordination at sea.
