Jammu to Get 75 New 7-metre AC Smart Electric Buses

Jammu is set to receive 75 new 7-metre, air-conditioned Smart Electric Buses under PM-eBus Sewa, expanding the electric public transport fleet operated through Jammu Smart City (JSCL). The buses are part of Lot-16 under PM-eBus Sewa Tender-3 and have been allocated specifically to the city.

The bidding process for the Jammu and Kashmir lot has been completed, with PMI Electro Mobility Solutions emerging as the lowest bidder, or L-1. Convergence Energy Services (CESL) has communicated the result to the Jammu and Kashmir government, while the formal award of the contract is expected to follow. The administration will complete the remaining contractual steps, including issuing the Letter of Award and signing an agreement with the selected operator.

The proposed vehicles will be standard-floor, 7-metre buses with air-conditioning. They are intended to increase public transport capacity and offer a cleaner, more comfortable mode of travel. Under the arrangement, the selected operator will provide, maintain and operate the buses on designated city routes. Their smaller size is expected to suit routes through congested parts of Jammu, while the air-conditioned interiors are intended to improve comfort during the city’s hot weather.

Jammu currently has 100 Smart Electric Buses operating through JSCL. The fleet comprises 25 12-metre buses and 75 9-metre buses, and is due to grow by a further 25 12-metre vehicles. The contract for those buses was signed in August 2026, and manufacturing is under way.

Once the latest procurement is completed, Jammu will have an electric bus fleet covering 7-metre, 9-metre and 12-metre formats, allowing vehicle sizes to be matched to route requirements. Deployment of the new buses will begin after the contractual procedures are concluded.

JSCL Chief Executive Officer Devansh Yadav said the expansion would strengthen public transport and support a cleaner, smarter and more passenger-friendly mobility system. With 100 buses already operating, 25 under manufacture and 75 moving towards deployment, the city’s electric public transport network is set for substantial expansion.
