Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with ParkLens India Private Limited (ParkLens) to implement a smart parking management system in the Jayanagar Assembly constituency. The corporation said the initiative is intended to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety across the constituency. The agreement was signed on Friday and follows a comprehensive study of the road network.

BSCC commissioner KN Ramesh said Jayanagar constituency comprises 281 km of roads across 1,215 streets and that, after study and clearance from the traffic police, 42 major commercial roads totalling 31.65 km have been identified for the initial phase. The corporation has planned the first phase to concentrate on high-traffic thoroughfares to maximise immediate benefit to motorists and pedestrians.

The scheme will create 4,749 parking zones across the 42 roads, with 3,800 designated for two-wheelers and over 900 for cars, together with bays for auto-rickshaws, bicycles and passenger pick-up and drop-off. Motorists will be able to check space availability through a mobile application, a website and digital display boards positioned along selected roads, and to complete cashless payments for parking. The system architecture as described will enable real-time occupancy monitoring and centralised management of the designated bays. Enforcement and compliance measures will be coordinated with the traffic police.

Free parking will be permitted between midnight and nine am for local residents in designated zones, the corporation said, and eligibility and operational details will be communicated through the platforms established for the project. ParkLens was selected through an open tender on the Karnataka public procurement portal to operate the scheme under a five-year Public-Private Partnership model. The arrangement assigns implementation, operations and user interface responsibilities to the private partner while the corporation retains oversight.

The project is presented as a technological response to congestion and pedestrian safety challenges in a densely networked urban locality and is intended to integrate digital tools with existing traffic management. Officials said the system will provide information to motorists, support cashless transactions and create defined parking infrastructure across commercial corridors.
