Jindal Stainless has commissioned a one point two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) stainless steel melt shop in Indonesia developed through its joint venture ahead of schedule. The addition increases total melting capacity to four point two MTPA, including three MTPA in India, and strengthens the company’s raw material security and global footprint.

Complementing the melt expansion, the company will commission a one point one MTPA hot rolled annealed pickled line and a zero point one seven MTPA cold rolling unit at Jajpur by Q4FY27 and Q2FY27 respectively. This development forms part of an earlier outlay of Rs 19 bn.

To further bolster downstream capacities, the company has earmarked a fresh investment of Rs nine bn at Hisar and Kharagpur, with commissioning expected by Q2FY28. Cold rolling capacity is projected to rise from two point zero five MTPA in FY26 to two point six seven MTPA by FY28, an increase of zero point six two MTPA.

These additions will enable production of thinner cold rolled products tailored for high growth industries and are expected to enhance value addition across the product portfolio. Once all downstream projects are commissioned, cold rolling capacity will account for 64 per cent of total melt capacity, supporting higher realisation and market diversification.

The company is targeting sales of approximately three point five MTPA by FY29 and expects to deliver double-digit per cent compound annual growth over the next three years. Jindal Stainless reported an annual turnover of Rs 401.82 bn in FY25 and the management highlighted a focus on integrated operations, electric arc furnace based manufacturing and expansion into key export markets. The company expects the new capacities to strengthen its presence in export markets including US, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Japan. It also remains committed to greener operations through electric arc furnace based production and recycling of scrap.
