JSW Infra Subsidiary Gets Customs Approval for Kolkata NSD Berth Seven

JSW Infrastructure has informed the stock exchanges that its wholly owned subsidiary, JSW Kolkata Container Terminal Private Limited, has received permission to commence operations at berth number seven and the associated Back Up Area of Netaji Subhash Dock (NSD) under Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata. The Principal Commissioner of Customs (Port) granted the approval through a trade circular issued by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata dated May seven, 2026. The permission marks a key milestone in the implementation of the project awarded on a public private partnership basis under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer model.

The project covers the reconstruction and mechanisation of berth number eight together with the mechanisation of berth numbers seven and eight at the NSD within the Kolkata Dock System. JSW Infrastructure had earlier received the Letter of Award in July 2025 and executed the Concession Agreement in September 2025. The works form part of a broader port modernisation initiative intended to upgrade terminal infrastructure and handling systems.

With the operational approval the subsidiary will begin activities at berth number seven and the Back Up Area to enhance cargo handling efficiency and expand terminal capacity at one of India’s principal eastern maritime gateways. JSW Infrastructure said the development reinforced its commitment to strengthening India’s port infrastructure and supporting trade growth through modernised and efficient terminal operations. The commencement of operations follows the completion of preparatory civil and mechanical works required for initial handling.

Activation of berth number seven and the Back Up Area will increase the terminal’s ability to process cargo and reduce port congestion by deploying mechanised equipment and operational workflows. The upgraded handling capability is designed to shorten vessel turnaround and improve multimodal connectivity with hinterland transport. The development contributes to regional trade facilitation and long term capacity enhancement at the Kolkata Dock System.
