Jupiter Wagons Wins 91 MW BESS Projects in Uttarakhand and Bengal

Jupiter Wagons, through its energy arm JEM Energy, has won a 41 MW/102.5 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project from Uttarakhand Power Corporation. The company said the project was secured in partnership with Madhav Infra Projects, which emerged as the L1 bidder for Cluster C of the state utility’s tender under the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism.

The Uttarakhand project involves the supply and commissioning of BESS systems valued at about Rs. 1 bn. The systems are designed to provide utility-scale electricity storage and support grid operations as renewable energy capacity expands.

Jupiter Wagons has also received a formal Letter of Award from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company for a 50 MW/200 MWh standalone BESS project at the Jeerat 132 kV substation in North 24 Parganas district. The company secured the West Bengal project in August 2026, taking the combined capacity of the two projects to 91 MW/302.5 MWh.

The developments follow the Union Cabinet’s approval of Phase 3 of the Green Energy Corridor, which provides for 50 GWh of battery energy storage and stronger intra-state transmission networks. Jupiter Wagons said substation-level storage in Uttarakhand and West Bengal was aligned with the framework and would support JEM Energy’s utility-scale portfolio.

The company said the new awards were important steps towards building JEM Energy into a scalable energy storage business. It reiterated its target of building a BESS order book worth about Rs. 10 bn by FY27. Jupiter Wagons also said it expected Jupiter Electric Mobility to become EBITDA positive in Q3 FY27 and profitable by FY28, while continuing to bid for utility-scale and commercial and industrial opportunities across India.
