Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL), a provider of integrated mobility solutions across rail, road, and marine transport, has secured an order worth Rs 2.42 billion from GATX India Private Limited, the country’s largest private railcar lessor. The contract covers the manufacture and supply of 583 specialised wagons designed for bulk commodities, passenger vehicles, and containerised freight.
The order includes BLSS, ACT2, BOXNHL, and BVCM wagon types, each engineered for high-capacity, long-distance operations to meet India’s evolving freight logistics needs. The designs focus on operational efficiency and durability, enhancing cargo handling capabilities for GATX and its clients.
Specialised wagon types include:
- BLSS (Container Carrier Wagon): Built for ISO containers, with high axle load capacity and improved payload-to-tare ratio, ideal for intermodal logistics and port-to-hinterland connectivity.
- ACT2 (Bi-level SUV Carrier): Designed for secure transport of up to 10 SUVs per wagon, offering minimal handling, enhanced vehicle protection, and faster loading/unloading to meet rising SUV demand.
- BOXNHL (High-Capacity Open Wagon): Used for bulk commodities like coal and iron ore, with payload capacity above 70 tonnes, tippler unloading design, improved speed, and enhanced braking systems for heavy-haul corridors.
Managing Director Vivek Lohia said the order further strengthens JWL’s relationship with GATX India and aligns with the company’s customer diversification strategy. “This engagement marks an important step in enabling modern, flexible freight operations, and we look forward to a long-term, value-driven partnership,” he noted.
Jupiter Wagons continues to expand across rail, road, marine, and sustainable mobility sectors through innovation-driven manufacturing, integrated design, and global partnerships, supporting the vision of a modern and efficient logistics network for India.
