The National Highways Authority of India will begin construction of a new toll plaza and administrative building at Kukdola village near Pachgaon next month to enable the shifting of the existing Kherki Daula toll plaza. The tender for the project is likely to be floated within a week by the state-owned Indian Highways Management Company Limited, the project director said, and work on the ground is expected to commence thereafter.

The new facility will feature 14 lanes and adopt a multi-lane free flow system that will read digital FASTag tags automatically without the need for toll cabins on the carriageway. Officials said toll collection at Kherki Daula will cease as soon as the Kukdola plaza becomes operational. NHAI had earlier estimated the project cost, including the administrative building, at Rs 180 million (mn), though officials anticipate lower expenditure at the new site because only gantries for FASTag readers will be required.

All stakeholders, including HSIIDC, GMDA and nearby security agencies, have given their consent and approvals for the site, and authorities expect construction to take around six months. The current site continues to fall within the revenue estate of Kukdola village, but the location has been shifted by around one kilometre towards Sehrawan from the earlier proposed spot, officials said, as they finalised permissions and resolved agency concerns.

The relocation plan was first announced by the Union transport minister in 2016 and was delayed by land acquisition issues, litigation, protests by local villagers, forest clearance requirements and security concerns. The Union transport ministry approved shifting the toll plaza to Pachgaon in May 2025, and after further local objections the proposed location was altered to Kukdola near Sehrawan, about 13 kilometres from the existing plaza.
