Kolkata Metro to replace standard fans with energy-efficient BLDC fans

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Metro Railway in Kolkata is set to replace all conventional fans with energy-efficient Brushless DC (BLDC) fans. This initiative aligns with Indian Railways' broader goal of achieving 'Net Zero Carbon Emission' by 2030, with a focus on reducing energy consumption.

The shift to BLDC fans is part of a comprehensive energy efficiency policy that emphasises five key areas: sustainable building practices, cloud-based data monitoring, energy-efficient equipment, power quality restoration, and capacity building through awareness programs.

BLDC fans are known for their energy efficiency, consuming just 28 watts of power while delivering 270 cubic meters of air per minute, compared to the 60 watts used by conventional fans of the same size. Additionally, BLDC fans operate quietly, enhancing the comfort of indoor spaces.

Over the next seven months, Kolkata Metro plans to replace more than 3,300 conventional fans with BLDC fans throughout its premises, furthering its commitment to green initiatives and energy conservation. (ET)
