Kvaser Launches Secure Linux Edge Platform
Traditional machine testing often relies on PC connections and extensive data logging. Kvaser Edge shifts this approach by enabling real-time processing on-device, with optional cloud or desktop integration for deeper analysis and collaboration. The system is intended to reduce unnecessary data capture while accelerating development cycles across automotive, off-highway and industrial use cases.
Key applications include real-time and remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance, intelligent filtering, event-based logging, fleet monitoring and telematics.
Intelligence at the source
Kvaser Edge runs a compact Linux environment capable of mounting directly within vehicles or machines. It supports real-time filtering, data aggregation and anomaly detection at the source, enabling faster insights during testing and deployment.
At its core is an ARM-based Linux computer equipped with an NXP SE051C2 Secure Element. The hardware-based security architecture is designed to meet cybersecurity requirements under frameworks such as CRA and RED, protecting collected data and intellectual property in both prototyping and scaled deployments.
Integrated GPS support, with an optional external antenna, enhances location awareness for fleet visibility and remote monitoring.
Containerised development with KEOS
The platform operates on Kvaser Edge OS (KEOS), a dedicated Linux operating system built for data acquisition and edge analytics. KEOS enables developers to create secure, isolated environments using containerised applications. Each container functions as a reproducible workspace, allowing teams to install preferred Linux distributions, run parallel versions and update applications independently from the base system.
This approach supports consistent deployments across vehicles and test rigs, while enabling processed data to be routed seamlessly to cloud or local servers. KEOS is engineered for automotive-grade power conditions and resilience against sudden shutdowns, supporting both rapid prototyping and long-term reliability.
Expanding developer ecosystem
Early adopters, including software partners such as Alkit, are already using Kvaser Edge to develop new testing workflows. Kvaser is building a broader developer ecosystem with documentation, SDKs and example projects to facilitate application development and packaging for edge deployments.
With over three decades of experience in CAN and LIN technologies, Kvaser positions the new platform as a scalable pathway for modernising data workflows in automotive and industrial environments.
