Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan Assumes Command Of Eastern Command

Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan has assumed the appointment of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command (EC), succeeding Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, who superannuated on 31 March 2026. Commissioned into the Indian Army on 11 June 1988, Lieutenant General Krishnan brings nearly four decades of varied military experience to the role. His career has included a wide range of command, staff and instructional appointments in some of the most challenging operational environments in the country. He is an alumnus of the country's premier military institutions.

He has commanded an Infantry Battalion and an Infantry Brigade in the super high-altitude terrain of Siachen and later served as General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division. He subsequently commanded the elite Brahmastra Corps. These operational commands have informed his approach to readiness and force employment.

In institutional and strategic roles he has served as Director General Information Technology at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) and as Defence Attaché at the High Commission of India in London. Prior to assuming his present appointment he served as the Quarter Master General (QMG) at Army Headquarters, where he led reforms in supply chain management and infrastructure to enhance operational sustenance and combat readiness. He also holds the appointments of Colonel of The Dogra Regiment and the Dogra Scouts and previously served as Commandant of the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, where his tenure set benchmarks in specialised training and doctrine.

On assuming command the Army Commander paid tribute to the fallen Bravehearts and urged all ranks of the EC to uphold the highest standards of operational preparedness. He emphasised the need to strengthen jointness, accelerate technological integration and maintain close synergy with stakeholders to ensure enduring peace and stability across the Eastern theatre. Lieutenant General Krishnan has indicated that these priorities will guide his tenure.
