L&T and BAE Systems Win Indian Army BvS10 Production Deal

Larsen & Toubro and BAE Systems have secured a licensed manufacturing contract from the Indian Army for the BvS10 Sindhu, an upgraded all-terrain armoured vehicle tailored for India’s operational environments. Under the agreement, L&T will produce the BvS10 Sindhu at its Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira with full technical and design support from BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original developer of the platform. The contract also includes integrated logistics support covering deployment, maintenance and long-term sustainment.

The BvS10 Sindhu features enhancements to suit India’s high-altitude regions, deserts, marshlands and amphibious terrain. The vehicle successfully completed extensive trials, demonstrating high mobility and reliability in both sea-level and extreme high-altitude conditions. Its articulated design enables manoeuvrability across snow, ice, sand, mud, steep gradients and flooded areas, while its modular configuration supports multiple mission roles including personnel transport, command and control, medical evacuation, logistics and mounted lethality.

Senior leaders from BAE Systems and L&T noted that the award reinforces India’s defence-modernisation agenda and strengthens self-reliance under Make in India. The programme marks the first expansion of the BvS10 platform into Asia and establishes a strategic partnership that couples global technology with indigenous manufacturing to ensure scalable, resilient and future-ready military capability for the Indian Army.
