L&T, Indian Army Partner to Upgrade Pinaka Rocket Systems
The collaboration marks a significant public–private partnership between a domestic original equipment manufacturer and the Indian Army, aimed at strengthening lifecycle support for frontline, Made-in-India artillery platforms. The initiative is designed to enhance long-term operational availability and modernisation of Pinaka regiments currently deployed with the Army.
The programme will focus on replacing outdated components, upgrading critical sub-systems and providing sustained technical support to Army Base Workshops. Under the arrangement, 510 Army Base Workshop (ABW) EME will carry out the overhaul and upgrade of key electronic systems, while L&T will supply critical spares, provide technical assistance and ensure quality oversight.
An initial pilot overhaul of the Pinaka Launcher and Battery Command Post will be undertaken jointly by L&T and 510 ABW. Following successful completion, subsequent systems will be upgraded by the Army Base Workshop, supported by L&T through a structured, lifecycle-based sustenance framework.
The model is expected to serve as a template for similar defence platform upgrade programmes, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by leveraging indigenous design, manufacturing and systems integration capabilities.
