Maharashtra has announced a significant investment of Rs.540 billion to fund extensive irrigation projects across Vidarbha, a region known for its agricultural potential and frequent water shortages. This allocation aims to address the critical water needs of farmers and enhance agricultural productivity in the area.

The irrigation projects include the construction of new dams, expansion of existing reservoirs, and the development of extensive canal networks. These initiatives are designed to ensure a more reliable water supply for crops, thereby reducing dependency on erratic monsoon patterns and improving overall farm yields.

In addition to enhancing water availability, the projects will focus on modernising irrigation infrastructure with advanced technologies for better water management. This move is expected to help in mitigating the effects of droughts and other climate-related challenges faced by the region.
