Mumbai, 4 September 2025: The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved Rs 3,750 crore for the construction of a new Bombay High Court complex in Bandra East. Spread across 30.16 acres of government land, the project has been declared a major infrastructure initiative.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature 75 modern courtrooms, judges’ chambers, offices, staff facilities, an arbitration and mediation centre, a library, an auditorium, residential quarters, and extensive parking. The integrated complex is designed to enhance judicial efficiency and convenience for lawyers and litigants.

To enable construction, the government has begun de-reserving land parcels under Development Plan (DP) 2034, which previously included areas for a cultural centre, government quarters, gardens, a police station, and bus shelters.

Earlier in June, the Cabinet had approved the relocation of 254 families from Gautam Nagar and Kamla Nagar slums occupying 4.09 acres of the site. These households will be rehabilitated in Malad East and Kandivali, freeing land for the new development. A renowned architect has been appointed to design the complex and its road network.

The project is expected to provide a modern, integrated judicial hub, addressing the infrastructure needs of Mumbai’s growing population and ensuring smoother access to justice.
