Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai (MIPCL), the developer and operator of Origins by Mahindra, and its strategic partner Sumitomo Corporation have signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Industrial Development Bureau. The collaboration aims to support Japanese companies—particularly those based in Osaka—in expanding their footprint in India.
This tripartite agreement reinforces Mahindra’s commitment to attracting global investments into India’s manufacturing sector and further positions Tamil Nadu as a preferred destination for Japanese industry. Sumitomo Corporation, which holds a 40 per cent stake in MIPCL, will act as the marketing partner in Japan.
As part of the agreement, MIPCL and Sumitomo will work closely with public institutions in Japan and India to facilitate site visits, provide local consultation, and participate in business seminars hosted in Osaka. The Osaka authorities will identify and recommend companies interested in entering India and assist in navigating necessary permissions for a smooth market entry.
India continues to emerge as a strong manufacturing hub with the World Bank projecting a GDP growth of 6.3 per cent for FY2025. With growing demand for reliable global supply chain partners, Chennai has gained prominence owing to its strong port infrastructure, proximity to Southeast Asia, and concentration of industries such as automotive, electronics, and semiconductors.
Origins by Mahindra, Chennai is already home to six Japanese companies and offers ready infrastructure and a stable regulatory environment. The latest collaboration will enhance support for Japanese firms exploring India as an investment destination.
MIPCL, backed by Mahindra Lifespace Developers, will assist Japanese companies with regulatory processes, land acquisition, utilities, and operational scaling to ensure seamless integration into the Indian market.
Amit Kumar Sinha, Managing Director & CEO, Mahindra Lifespace Developers, said, “This partnership reflects our vision to build future-ready ecosystems that align with India’s manufacturing ambitions. This also underscores our focus on setting new benchmarks through successful Public-Private Partnerships, enabling long-term, sustainable industrial progress.”
Vikram Goel, Chief Business Officer (Industrial), Mahindra Lifespace Developers, added, “This engagement with Osaka Prefecture marks a milestone in our efforts to enable global investments into India through our industrial ecosystems. Origins by Mahindra, Chennai has been developed to meet the needs of international manufacturers, offering operational readiness, regulatory support, and integrated infrastructure.”
