Major infra sectors growth slows to 4% in June

Official data released indicated that the production growth of eight key infrastructure sectors slowed to 4% in June this year, attributed to a decrease in the output of crude oil and refinery products. In comparison, production growth for these core sectors had been 6.4% in May 2024.

The growth of these core sectors?coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, steel, cement, and electricity?was 8.4% in June 2023. For the period from April to June this fiscal year, the output of these core sectors increased by 5.7%, compared to 6% during the same period last fiscal year.

These eight core sectors contribute 40.27% to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), which measures overall industrial growth.
