Major Upgrades Under Amrit Bharat Scheme At Nine Bengaluru Stations
The redevelopment focuses on improving station access, enhancing waiting halls and toilets, constructing wider foot overbridges and air concourses, and providing lifts, escalators and Divyangjan-friendly facilities. It also includes parking upgrades, multimodal integration, kiosks under the One Station One Product initiative, executive lounges and landscaping.
At Yesvantpur civil works for the east-side arrival plaza, an elevated road and multi-level car parking have been completed, while finishing works and structural development of the west-side station building are in progress. Bangalore Cantonment has seen completion of a 24 metre wide diversion road, a training centre and structural work of the south-side building, with further finishing works and foot overbridge construction under way.
Whitefield has completed boundary wall works, improved parking, platform shelters and a ladies waiting hall, and additional shelters, a food plaza, a new canopy and a 12 metre wide foot overbridge are under construction. At Krishnarajapuram, Kengeri and Dodballapur additional entry points, parking improvements, waiting halls and platform shelters are being developed to ease passenger flow.
Redevelopment is being carried out in phases based on station specific master plans and no fixed completion timelines have been announced because of statutory clearances and operational challenges such as shifting utilities and the need to maintain uninterrupted train services. Projects are being monitored through a dedicated railway portal to try to prevent delays and cost overruns and to ensure coordination among agencies.
