West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reviewed the ongoing construction of the Jagannath Temple in Digha, located in Purba Medinipur district, announcing that the temple's inauguration is scheduled for April 30, 2025. The state government has invested approximately Rs 2.5 billion in the project so far, with more funding required to make the temple fully operational. Banerjee stated that construction would be completed within three months, and inauguration preparations would begin on April 28, two days prior to the event. The Chief Minister highlighted the temple's potential to attract global tourists, describing it as a landmark project that would last "for thousands of years." The temple, spanning 20 acres, will also host next year’s Ratha Yatra, an event Banerjee plans to attend. Banerjee announced that she would personally donate a "golden broom" crafted by ISKCON for the temple. She also praised HIDCO engineers for their exceptional work on the project. The temple will include guest rooms, storage facilities, and shops selling puja items, managed by local women. A trustee board, led by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, will oversee the temple's operations, although Banerjee clarified she would not be part of the board. Accompanied by officials including DGP Rajeev Kumar and ISKCON Kolkata Vice-President Radharamn Das, Banerjee expressed confidence that the temple would become a significant spiritual and cultural destination worldwide.
