Manipur Joins Patanjali to Expand Oil Palm Cultivation
The MoU was formally executed between the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, and Patanjali Foods in the presence of senior government and company officials. As part of the agreement, Patanjali Foods Limited will commence its oil palm plantation operations in Manipur on April 1, 2025. In the first year, the initiative will cover approximately 2,700 hectares of land for oil palm cultivation.
The initial phase of the project will focus on Imphal East, Thoubal, and Kakching districts, while Bishnupur district will be included in the second phase. With this agreement, Patanjali Foods extends its oil palm plantation activities to six Northeastern states actively engaged in the NMEO-OP program.
During the fiscal year 2024-25, the company aims to cover 10,000 hectares of oil palm plantations across the Northeast, with plans to expand the cultivation area to 20,000 hectares in 2025-26.
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s mission to enhance self-sufficiency in edible oil production while generating economic opportunities for farmers in Manipur. By promoting sustainable oil palm cultivation, the program is expected to contribute significantly to the region's agricultural and economic growth.
