Manipur Moves Forward: 24 Projects, 18 Foundations
The projects include a Bailey Suspension Bridge spanning 360 feet over the Barak River along the Tamenglong Tousem-Haflong road, a District Early Intervention Centre at the local hospital, and various water supply schemes. Foundations were laid for residential quarters for police stations, road quality improvement initiatives, and rigid pavement construction.
During a cabinet meeting held in Tamenglong, the Chief Minister highlighted the district's strategic importance, stating that improved road connectivity, such as the ongoing Tamenglong-Mahur road project on NH-137, would transform it into a gateway to Assam.
Singh also flagged concerns about the potential influx of illegal immigrants along the new routes, emphasizing the need to protect Manipur's indigenous population.
The event marked progress under the “Go to Hills” initiative, which has bridged gaps between the state government and remote regions by addressing local grievances effectively.
Meanwhile, the state continues its recovery from violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which erupted in May 2023, claiming over 200 lives and displacing thousands. Recent changes, including the replacement of Assam Rifles units with Central Armed Police Forces, have contributed to a reduction in aggression this year.
Manipur’s rebuilding efforts underscore the state’s resilience and the administration’s focus on development, peace, and community well-being.
