Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has initiated a study to develop a master plan for the optimal facilities and logistics required to export green hydrogen and green ammonia from India. The study is conducted under Japan’s METI FY2023 Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation supplementary program, in collaboration with Indian partner Hygenco Green Energies.

With India promoting the production of green hydrogen and ammonia to build an export industry, the country is emerging as a promising supplier for Japan and Southeast Asian nations pursuing medium- to long-term decarbonization strategies.

MHI will leverage its expertise to create production and usage models for green hydrogen and ammonia, considering real-world environmental conditions and transport constraints. The company signed a contract with Hygenco in August to obtain data on green ammonia production.

The study will focus on linking production and usage models to design economically viable and optimal facilities, contributing to a master plan for carbon-neutral fuel utilization across countries including India and Singapore. Analytical results from simulations will inform proposals to governments and partners for promoting the adoption of carbon-neutral fuels and fostering international cooperation.

Through this initiative, MHI Group aims to strengthen its energy transition business, support decarbonization strategies, and enable business expansion for Japanese and international operators in the green fuel value chain, contributing to the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
