Ministry Launches Real-Time Internal Audit Portal

The Ministry of Rural Development has launched an Internal Audit Portal to replace manual audit tracking with a real-time centralised digital system that provides enhanced transparency and institutional accountability. The platform was developed by the National Informatics Centre and was reviewed by the Secretary of the ministry with senior finance and administrative leadership present. The system introduces Secretary-level visibility to enable direct oversight of audit health across departments.

The portal features a real-time dashboard that displays audit status, action taken reports and pending compliance, and it supports continuous monitoring rather than periodic reviews. Automated escalation triggers have been included to address delays in compliance and to reinforce responsibility at every administrative tier. Role-based access controls have been implemented to maintain data integrity while allowing coordinated action across units. The design also allows custom reporting and periodic performance metrics to be generated for senior managers.

The centralised system streamlines tracking of audit observations from field offices to headquarters and is expected to reduce the compliance gap by speeding resolution of findings. The ministry intends the portal to support evidence-based decision making through analytics and to enable continuous monitoring 365 days a year. The initiative aligns with the Digital India vision and aims to strengthen governance frameworks for rural development programmes.

The ministry emphasised that the platform will improve oversight of resources allocated for rural development and will introduce higher standards of fiscal discipline and transparency for the management of public funds. Technical ownership remains with the National Informatics Centre while administrative use is governed by ministry protocols. The portal is accessible through the ministry web address provided in the release and will be rolled out across departments for operational use.
